Sanitary Sewer

DESIGN STANDARDS

The design, materials, installation, and testing of any proposed connection or extension to the Village’s water distribution system shall be in accordance with the 35 Ill. Adm. Code 370.

PERMITS REQUIRED

Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, 35 Ill. Adm. Code 309.
Properties in the southeast corner of the Village's corporate limits are served by the Wheaton Sanitary District (WSD) and will require a permit in accordance with WSD process and procedures.

PIPE FOR SANITARY SEWER

DESIGN FLOW. The Sanitary Sewage Flow per capita used in developing Design Flow for residential areas shall be computed using the formula provided however, that the maximum design flow not exceed 400 gallons per capita per day and shall not be less than 250 gallons per capita per day. The maximum permitted design for an eight (8) inch sewer is 1,125 P.E., 2,796 P.E. for ten (10) inch and 4,284 P.E. for twelve (12) inch sewers.
SECTION 370.320(i)(1) SIZE. Service sewers and fittings shall be a minimum of 4 6 inches in diameter, but shall not be less than the diameter of the plumbing pipe from the building.

MANHOLES

DIAMETER. The minimum diameter of manholes shall be 48 inches for pipe sizes up to and including 12 inches and 60 inches for pipe sizes over 12 inches.

CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATIONS

The materials, installation, and testing shall be in accordance with the Standard Specifications for Water & Sewer Construction in Illinois, 8th Edition (SSWS). Local amendments to Division III are as follows:

PIPE MATERIAL FOR SANITARY SEWER MAINS (SECTION 30)

30-4 PIPE AND JOINT MATERIALS

No other pipe materials shall be allowed except for the following:

30-4.03 DUCTILE IRON PIPE (DIP). DIP shall conform to AWWA C151, class 52 per AWWA C150, seal coated and cement lined per AWWA C104, with mechanical or rubber ring (slip seal or push on) joints. Approved manufacturers/models are:
30-4.04 POLYVINYL CHLORIDE (PVC) SEWER PIPE.
- All types (A) through (E) allowed; exclude the following:
  - ~~30-4.04(F) Corrugated Sewer Pipe with Smooth Interior.~~ Not allowed.

40-2.05 PIPE FITTINGS

40-2.05A CAST IRON OR DUCTILE IRON PIPE FITTINGS. All cast iron or ductile iron fittings three (3) inch through forty-eight (48) inch shall conform to AWWA C110. Ductile iron compact fittings three (3) inch through sixty-four (64) inch shall conform to AWWA C153.
RESTRAINED JOINT FITTINGS. Approved manufacturers/models are:

PIPE LAYING, JOINTING AND TESTING (SECTION 31)

41-2.05E POLYETHYLENE ENCASEMENT. All DIP and appurtenances shall be installed with polyethylene encasement per AWWA C105 and in accordance with installation methods AWWA C105 A,B,C, or Modified Method A.
31-1.09 JOINTING OF DISSIMILAR PIPES. Approved manufacturers/models are:
- Mission Rubber Company; FLEX-SEAL® Unshielded Sewer Couplings
31-1.10 SANITARY SEWER LINE CONNECTIONS. Refer to Chapter 13 of the Village's Code of Ordinances.

33-5.04 FITTINGS.

- Where no tee, wye, or riser is provided or available, connection shall be made by the following:
1. Installation of a manhole.
2. Circular saw-cut of sewer main by proper tools, and proper installation of a hub wye saddle or a hub tee saddle, in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations.
3. Remove an entire section of pipe and replace with a wye or tee branch section. Pipe section shall be removed by breaking only to top of one bell. After the wye or tee branch is inserted, concrete shall be placed over the broken area to a minimum thickness of four (4) inches and to a dimension of eight (8) inches in all directions.
4. Using a pipe cutter, neatly and accurately cut out the desired length of pipe for insertion of proper fittings. Use “and Seal” couplings, or similar couplings, and shear rings and clamps to fasten the inserted fitting and hold it firmly in place. Follow manufacturer’s recommendations for the installation.
