Administration

The Police Administration Division’s goal is to provide high quality police services for the community. This goal is achieved by developing, planning, training and evaluating current services.

Criminal Investigation Unit

The Criminal Investigation Unit works as a team to provide support services to Patrol and Administration.  The Criminal Investigation Unit is on call 24 hours a day and is committed to serving the Carol Stream community.

Patrol

The Patrol Division operates 24 hours a day. Core responsibilities of the Patrol Division include 9-1-1 call response, preliminary investigation of reporting incidents, community service, law enforcement, crime prevention, community policing and problem solving.

Records

The Records Division is staffed 24 hours a day including holidays and is often the first point of contact for customers. During non-business hours of the Municipal Center, the Records Division provides supplementary service such as vehicle sticker and waste sticker sales, permit pick up and other Village reception services.

Social Service

The Social Service Division functions as a support service to police personnel and as a proactive intervention and interaction service provider to the Carol Stream community. The Social Service Division coordinates village-wide community outreach projects focusing on underprivileged families in Carol Stream.  Services include:

  • A comprehensive referral service
  • Diagnostic consultation
  • Crisis intervention
  • Individual, family, couples and group counseling

Community Relations Unit

The Community Relations Unit focuses on crime prevention, gang and drug suppression. The Community Relations Unit partners with outside agencies to facilitate many programs including:

  • Crime Prevention
  • Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE)
  • Gang Resistance Education Awareness Training (GREAT) 
  • Citizen Police Academy 
  • Volunteer Program
  • Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)

Traffic

The Traffic Division receives substantial training in advanced areas of traffic crash investigation and is responsible for:

  • Enforcement of the Illinois Vehicle Code
  • Various public education programs
  • Traffic crash investigations
  • The Crash Response Team 
  • Child safety seat inspection program 
  • Traffic safety grants funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation
