Wastewater moves through approximately 125 miles of pipes in the collection system via gravity. After the pipes reach a certain depth, the Village uses lift stations which pump sewage from the lower elevation to a depth closer to the surface in order to continue utilizing gravity to move the sewage to the treatment plant.

Most properties in Carol Stream are connected to a sanitary sewer collection system that delivers wastewater to the Village’s Water Reclamation Center (WRC) located at 245 Kuhn Road. Wastewater from some properties in the Village (mostly south of North Avenue) is directed to the Wheaton Sanitary District.
