Each property has a private service line that drains all of the household or business wastewater to the Village’s sewer mains, which typically run under or parallel to streets. 

The property owner is responsible for the maintenance of the private sewer service line from their home or business up to, and including, the connection to the sewer main.

If you ever suffer a sewage backup in your home or business (usually in the lowest spot like a floor drain), please call the Public Works Department first (630-871-6260).  Our crews will respond to determine if the cause of the backup is in the sewer main, which could save you time and expense in hiring a plumber. 

If the problem is not in the Village’s sewer main, then you will likely have to work with a plumber to diagnose the problem in your service line.

The only items that should ever be flushed down the toilet are the 3 P's:

1. Pee
2. Poop
3. (Toilet) Paper

The marketing of wipes and other household products claiming to be “flushable” is technically accurate – you can flush them down the toilet. But this is when the trouble starts. These products marketed as disposable or flushable DO NOT break down in the sanitary sewer system, but DO clog service lines, and can lead to expensive backups and repair bills for homeowners.
