Public Notice: Juvenile Records for years 2011-2015 expunged

Public notice is hereby given that the Carol Stream Police Department has completed the expungement of all qualifying juvenile records created in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 in accordance with Public Act 100-1162 of the state of Illinois.

Why are we issuing this notice?

In 2018, the state of Illinois approved Public Act 100-1162, which requires that law enforcement agencies automatically expunge all eligible juvenile records from the years 2011 through 2017. These expungements must be completed prior to January 1, 2020.

The law also requires that written notice be given to those individuals whose records have been expunged. The law allows that, for records created prior to 2016, a public notice like this one satisfies that requirement.

The Carol Stream Police Department is committed to the responsible maintenance of law enforcement records, in compliance with the law and best practices. The department recognizes that records involving juveniles, in particular, require the utmost care and thoroughness with regard to how those records are created and maintained.
