Motor Crash Accident Reports

Not all accidents have crash reports generated. Non-injury crashes with minor damage and non-injury accidents on private property generally do not have crash reports generated. These are considered “log entries only” and involve exchange of drivers’ information only.

Criteria for generating a motor crash report includes damage over $1,500 per vehicle and/or a crash involving personal injury. A copy of a crash report may be obtained for $5 payable to the Village of Carol Stream. Please stop by the Police Department if you would like to pick up a copy of a crash report, or send in your request and payment to The Village of Carol Stream Police Department, 500 N. Gary Avenue, Carol Stream, IL 60188. The Carol Stream crash reports are also available for purchase online. You may call the Records Division at (630) 668-2167 if you have questions.

Incident Reports

If you need to get a copy of an incident report, it must be requested through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. A FOIA clerk will review your request and respond within 5 business days in accordance with FOIA guidelines.

Most incident reports are supplied free of charge. There are minimal charges for fulfillments involving 50 or more pages and for those requests requiring video or audio disks. We need adequate information to fulfill your request. Information like the report number, the date of the incident, your name and date of birth, a general description of what occurred and a location will assist us to locate the proper report. You may request more than one report on the same FOIA request.
